Rebecca Forsythe never imagined that her career would one day lead her to the red carpet at the AACTA Awards – but that’s exactly what happened.

Her story is proof that careers don’t have to follow a straight path. With the right opportunities, support, and passion, you can keep growing, adapting, and even find yourself on a red carpet along the way.

In her current role at Foxtel Group as a Commercial Box Migration Specialist, Rebecca oversees a nationwide rollout of upgraded technology for businesses across Australia. Alongside this, Rebecca balances a career as a freelance fashion stylist, working with brands and personal clients to bring their creative vision to life.

And this year, those two worlds collided as she walked the AACTA Awards red carpet, styled by none other than herself.

“Attending the AACTA Awards was such an incredible experience – we loved every minute!” Rebecca says. “It was like stepping into the heart of the Australian film and TV industry. The excitement in the air was contagious, especially as we walked down the red carpet and took in all the glitz and glamour of the day. Celebrities, directors, actors, and industry professionals were all gathered together, which made it a unique opportunity to network and enjoy the event.”

The night wasn’t just about industry recognition – it was about celebrating the Foxtel Group team and their collective success.

“It was amazing to see so many of our shows and talent being recognised,” Rebecca says. “There was such a strong sense of pride, knowing that we all play a part in bringing these stories to life, whether directly or behind the scenes.

"Seeing the team come together, celebrating our 33 nominations, was really special.”

Building a career that grows with you

Rebecca is one of many employees who have left Foxtel Group and returned.

“There’s a reason people come back,” she says. “It’s not just the work – it’s the culture, the perks, the fun. No other company gives you these experiences.”

From exclusive experiences to career growth and flexibility, she sees Foxtel Group as a workplace that actively supports staff to pursue both professional and personal passions. Rebecca’s journey at Foxtel Group started in customer retention, but the company’s culture of career progression allowed her to move into new and exciting roles as she grew.

“I started in retention, and then a secondment opportunity came up for a Sales and Quality Coach role. I put my hand up and got it,” she recalls. “That was an amazing experience – coaching teams, refining sales techniques – it was something I really loved.

“If you’re eager to learn and upskill, the company supports you. My managers have always been incredibly encouraging.”

In her current role, she plays a critical part in migrating businesses from older Foxtel IQ boxes to IQ2 or above. Rebecca believes her previous experience working on the customer-side of our business and developing a deep knowledge of our products and content helped prepare her for this promotion.

“It’s a huge logistical effort – coordinating customers, scheduling technicians, and ensuring everything runs smoothly,” Rebecca explains. “It’s a mix of relationship-building, technical knowledge, and a lot of problem-solving.

"I love that it’s given me the opportunity to step from Foxtel residential into the business world – it’s been fun and exciting to learn new things and meet new people.”

The project spans across Australia, with Rebecca and her team working with businesses of all different kinds in all different locations.

“One of the most fascinating parts of this role is getting insight into how different businesses operate, from bustling pubs and sports bars to corporate offices and remote sites,” she says. “I’ve learned so much about different industries just from talking to people – what they need, how they use Foxtel, and how we can make the transition to new technology as seamless as possible for them.

“We’re reaching out to such a wide range of businesses, and each one has different needs,” she says. “We’re not just working with businesses in city centres – we’re working with mining sites, island resorts, rural clubs, aged-care homes and health facilities across the country.

“We’re not just supporting one type of customer – it’s everything from a small café with a single box to a huge corporate venue with multiple systems.

“It’s amazing to see how crucial Foxtel is to so many businesses – not just in entertainment but also in keeping communities connected.”

One of the most rewarding aspects of Rebecca’s role is the variety of people she interacts with every day.

“Every day, I’m speaking to a huge variety of people – business owners, managers, staff at venues – each with different levels of understanding about the migration,” she says. “Sometimes you have to explain the same process in completely different ways, depending on whether you’re talking to a venue manager, an IT team, or a business owner.

“Some businesses have had their Foxtel setup for years and haven’t had to think about it. Some venues don’t even have HD capability yet, so this upgrade is going to be a huge improvement in the quality of entertainment they can provide their customers. It’s about reassuring them that this upgrade will only improve their experience.

“It’s not just a technical process; it’s about clear communication and making sure our customers know we’re here to support them through the transition.”

Her job also means collaborating with teams across the country, ensuring a smooth rollout for businesses in every state.

“This is a nationwide project, so we’re constantly liaising with different departments, technicians, and business teams to make sure things stay on track,” Rebecca explains. “While I’m based on the Gold Coast, my immediate team is mostly based in Melbourne, but we’ve built a really strong connection. We work closely to coordinate the project and ensure everything runs smoothly.

“It’s a fast-moving environment, and having a supportive team across different locations makes all the difference.”

Branching out as a freelance fashion stylist

Foxtel Group’s supportive environment has also allowed Rebecca to balance her dual careers – one in entertainment technology, the other in fashion styling.

“When I first came back to Foxtel Group, I was working part-time so I could dedicate time to growing my styling business – it’s rare to find a company that supports that kind of career balance,” she says.

She also credits the leadership and mentorship at Foxtel Group for her continued growth.

“If you show an interest in learning new skills, Foxtel Group really supports that,” she says. “I’ve always had managers who encouraged me to take on new opportunities, and that’s been a huge factor in my career development.

“I’ve always loved fashion, but I never really pursued it seriously until COVID made me rethink things,” she explains. “I decided to take the plunge and train with the Australian Style Institute, which is one of the best styling schools in the country. It was the best decision I could have made.”

Since then, Rebecca has built her own styling business, Becdressed, working on editorial shoots, brand campaigns, and personal styling clients.

“I do everything from editorial styling to wardrobe consulting, where I help people refresh their style and mix and match pieces they already own,” she says. “There’s something really rewarding about seeing a client light up when they realise how good they feel in the right outfit.

“Photoshoots are one of my favourite parts of styling – it’s such a collaborative process, working with photographers, models, and creative directors to bring a vision to life,” she says. “Every shoot is different – sometimes it’s a very structured plan, and other times you have to think on your feet and improvise.”

And while the two fields may seem different, Rebecca sees plenty of crossover between them.

“I love that my career at Foxtel Group and my work as a stylist both revolve around entertainment – it makes the two worlds feel connected. At Foxtel Group, we’re constantly talking about TV and film, and as a stylist, I love looking at costume design and wardrobe choices in shows – it’s one of my favourite parts of watching content.

“Watching shows like Succession or The Day of the Jackal, I’m constantly drawn to the styling and wardrobe choices. Eddie Redmayne’s outfits in Day of the Jackal were just incredible – pulling off that level of understated style takes serious skill.”

She also sees key transferable skills between her roles.

“There’s actually a lot of overlap between working as a stylist and my work at Foxtel Group – you need great attention to detail, creativity, and the ability to think on your feet.

“It’s amazing how many people at Foxtel have creative side hustles – whether it’s photography, fashion, or design. It just goes to show how much talent exists within the company.

“I’m so grateful that Foxtel Group gave me the flexibility to pursue my styling career alongside my corporate role.”

Walking the AACTA Awards red carpet

Walking the red carpet at the 2025 AACTA Awards was a dream moment – not just because of the event, but because it was an opportunity for Rebecca to bring her styling expertise to the table.

“One of the highlights of the night for me was the fashion – both on the red carpet and behind the scenes,” she says.

“My partner Isaac and I were styled by the best in the biz (myself, aka Becdressed), and I was lucky enough to wear a stunning Benni dress while Isaac wore a bespoke suit.”

She also loved seeing the incredible red carpet looks from celebrities.

“There was so much fashion inspiration on the red carpet – bold choices, timeless classics, and some unexpected showstoppers.

“The stars brought their A-game – some of my absolute favourite looks of the night were from Asher Keddie, Phoebe Tonkin, Robbie Williams, Henry Cavill, Sophie Monk, Genevieve Hegney, Sophie Wilde, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Gracie Otto.”

More than just a fashion moment, the night was about celebrating Foxtel Group’s achievements.

“The most exciting part for me was getting to meet the stars from Colin from Accounts and being surrounded by other talented stars from our shows and movies like The Twelve, High Country, and How to Make Gravy – which, by the way, took home the win for Best Original Song!”

Rebecca and Isaac with Genevieve Hegney, Helen Thomson, Tai Hara, and Justin Rosniak, stars of BINGE Original Colin from Accounts which received nine award nominations – making it the most nominated comedy series at the AACTA Awards for the second year in a row.

With a successful corporate career and a growing styling business, Rebecca has plenty to look forward to in her future.

“I love having the chance to work in both worlds – it keeps things exciting and constantly challenges me in new ways. The dream would be to keep growing my styling work while still being part of the entertainment industry – I love being in both spaces.”

And after getting a taste of the red carpet experience, could styling celebrities be in her future?

“Who knows – maybe one day I’ll be styling some of the stars from Foxtel Group’s biggest shows!” she laughs.
